Pacific Edge Chorus
'DON’T STOP thinking about tomorrow' – this bit comes in size 'song', and it fits us perfectly. A 'never give up' attitude sparked curiosity from our public. As a result another prospective member stepped forward and passed her audition last rehearsal. Since our last update we took in two new members, and we have six(6) prospective members in the wings – this is just a feeling, but I think we have something here.
We went from full on ZOOM rehearsals, back and forth our boxes, and on the 1st green light we stepped out to masked, non-singing, chorus gatherings, just to see each other in person. Then, to 'section' rehearsals at our Leaders' homes. A couple of full chorus rehearsals offered in the back yards of our members'. Outside parking lot rehearsals were arranged at our hall with a healthy 'in person' turn out. All while respecting members remaining at home and providing the ZOOM rehearsal option.
Finally, on Sept 21, 2021, we walked up the stairs and entered our hall where we conducted our very 1st rehearsal since lockdowns began. Oh, what an amazing feeling! Thanks to the fashionable 'singers masks' the sound was absolutely fulfilling. It was surprising the freedom the masks provide – inside and out of its fabric. we are even able to do physical warm-ups wearing them.
A huge shout out to our Region, our chorus Board and members who did the research on safety tools and procedures and who created schedules so that we can 'really clean-up' after ourselves keeping us and other hall users safe. And thanks to our electronically gifted members– who keep the ZOOM option stable. So many little jobs that are so important - we are fortunate to have it all covered. As our director just repeated last rehearsal 'it takes a village' - we are that village.
Congratulation again to our Marcia Pinvidic for her SAI Lifetime Achievement Award – so deserving for all her work and sharing over the years – and who is still contributing. She is the epitome of worth for the recognition in this award. Good on you Marcia – you brought us so far.
Our 2022 Maritime tour is on schedule and although we had to cancel our 'Some Knights Show' again this Nov – it gives us more time to improve the repertoire, polish the details and gather more villagers. In the meantime, Director Julie Smith, Cathy Crawford and Teresa White are creating a video of us. Voice recordings are in and compiled, arranged by Julie. Now on to the video portion. No small task, and we are grateful for this huge undertaking. To help out, a few of us need to take to the woods where fairies flit about in the forest mist – we'll be watching closely and try to capture their Bonnie Sue blithe. Imagine the pure magic that'll be spun from these visuals.
Working our way through the past year and a half has presented the most extensive, creative learning experience that most of us will have ever experienced in our lifetime. We navigated a progressive route involving 3 steps forward and 2 back, with adjustments, lots of twists, tons of turns and multiple cancellations. But everything is still moving forward, and we won't look back.
