Alberta Heartland Chorus - Life with Covid
Life with COVID
Like all of you, Alberta Heartland Chorus has been challenged by the new stay at home life we are living in. We miss our friends, our riser mates, our Soul sisters.
Keeping in touch and keeping motivated can be a struggle, but with weekly Zoom ‘rehearsals’, a dedicated Director, and a supportive management team we are doing our best.
Lisa has come with some innovative games to keep everybody involved. One of these was the virtual “Easter Egg Hunt.” It was hard to hide eggs, so she hid clues, subtly leading to education. To find the answers we had to hunt through the chorus, regional and the International websites. Points were given for each answer with extra points gained by singing through the up-tune and practicing your part for three days in a row. Whoever had the most points won, but everybody who participated won by learning more about our organization, and by practicing their music.
We are also being assigned homework assignments, like watching our rehearsal video and assessing the performance, studying the judging categories, and learning new music. Currently we have three songs to work on, two regional and one for the chorus repertoire. Plus, the one we were in the middle of when the world stopped. Lots to keep us busy.
It can be hard to stay motivated when there is no singing together, no performances and perhaps no International competition, but thanks to technology we can enjoy time together. After all, how many times have we heard; “I came for the music, but stayed for the friendship”? The friendships are strong in Alberta Heartland Chorus, and thanks to our wonderful Director, the chords will continue to ring.
