Alberta Northern Lights Chorus

Great things are happening in Alberta Northern Lights Chorus!

Our director, Lisa Hunszinger, has officially become an APPROVED JUDGE for Sweet Adelines International (Expression Category). We are celebrating her for this amazing accomplishment, and we know she will have so much to offer in her comments and feedback for every chorus and quartet who sings for her.  Watch for Lisa at a judge’s table near you this season 😊

We had 3 members of our chorus attend the Region 26 Fall Leadership Training in Abbotsford, BC (Phyllis, Lisa, Laura). Thank you to Leslie Galbreath and Caitlin Castelino for sharing your knowledge and expertise – and thank you to Region 26 for organizing this great event. Our 3 representatives had a full weekend and came home with lots to share with our teams and chorus.

We are celebrating our 20th birthday this year, and we had the privilege of having CTV News Edmonton come to our rehearsal to share this news with the community of Edmonton (and Calgary CTV News also), and help share a bit about our chorus with the Edmonton area - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?extid=CL-UNK-UNK-UNK-AN_GK0T-GK1C&mibextid=GpiG5r&v=859214352219165  This was really exciting for us, and CTV news helped us share the word about our upcoming events (Fall Singing Social Open Rehearsal on Sept 12 and our Fund-‘riser’ event at Salisbury Greenhouses on Sept 23).

There is such a buzz happening in our chorus right now -- we have had great success with our guest nights (Summer Singing Social June 27, and Fall Singing Social Sept 12). We had 20 guests come last week, 11 of which have been voice placed and 7 that said they will come back – so our chorus is growing! We have also welcomed 5 new full-time members to the chorus in the past 6 weeks. It is wonderful to be able to share our love of a capella barbershop harmony & pop music with other women in our community.  When you join a chorus because you love to sing, it becomes so much more than just singing. 😊

Our Salisbury Greenhouse Harvest Fest Fundraiser on Sept 23rd (11 am to 3 pm) – after 20 years and growth in membership, we are in desperate need of new risers, so this will be a great opportunity for our chorus to partner with the community to chat with our members about our chorus, and hear us sing some familiar tunes popping up all around the greenhouse, in addition to grabbing a hot dog, hamburger and chips in support of our chorus. This will be a great event to attend!

This summer we performed at the Edmonton Scottish United Soccer Club on June 25th and July 1st, to open the games with “O Canada”, and they have invited us back for next year as well.  We also had the privilege of performing for the TransAlta Retirement Association AGM in June, performing our “Technical Difficulties” International Award Winning Package (3rd place in Division A, Sept 2022, Phoenix Arizona) as well as other selections.

Alberta Northern Lights Chorus is really looking forward to our future and all that it brings – we hope you are also experiencing an increase in membership, to help spread the love of this wonderful hobby to other women around the world. 😊
