Battlefords Blend

Members of  Battlefords Blend Chorus were excited to get back to live competition at Region 26 “Back for the Future” in Saskatoon in April.

There was a whirlwind of activity leading up to the competition, in part because it was the first time for the chorus to compete in the International Division for more than a decade. With our director, Jo Carter and 16 members on the risers it was exciting to cross the stage in Saskatoon. Of those 16 members, three were new to the chorus last spring and two were returning members.

In addition to the thrill of performance, we were also honoured to see our recently retired president, Linda MacDonald, receive the Spirit of Region 26 Award. Another member, Sandra Halseth, was recognized for being on the risers for 50 years! To top that off, our three new members were honoured at the shindig for their first time “crossing the stage”.

We haven’t had much of a break since then either. On May 14, our chorus performed at the North Battleford Kinsmen Club Band Choir Concert at the beautiful Chapel Gallery in North Battleford.

That was followed up by a guest night on the 16th which had been promoted through local newspapers with advertisements and a story about one of our new members. We were pleased to have a number of guests attend and we’re hopeful that two or three of those who came will be eager to join our chorus in the fall.

Our membership committee will continue to encourage new members through further articles in local papers plus shorter pieces on Facebook. It is hoped that all of our members will continue to seek others who share our joy in singing and want to find out what it’s like to be with us on the risers.

We have another guest night lined up for later in May and hope to sing out at a number of the long term care homes in the area before we take a summer break.

Even during our time off this summer, we plan to gather for a day to share songs and stories in preparation for our up-coming show on December 10 and competition in 2024! Who knows? We might even audition for Telemiracle this fall.
