Bewitched Quartet

Bewitched in Niagara on the Lake

Following two years of Covid restrictions and cancelled regional and international competitions, Bewitched Quartet was thrilled to win the gold medal in the 2022 Region 26 Quartet Competition.

Our experience representing Region 26 and Lions Gate Chorus in Phoenix at the Sweet Adelines International Convention & Competition was fantastic! More on that later but first a little background.

Bewitched formed in October 2021 after the harmony parts found ourselves without a lead and decided we wanted to keep singing together. Nine fabulous singers from Lions Gate Chorus auditioned for the spot and we chose Allison because of our strong vocal match. The six months that followed leading up to regional contest was a whirlwind of activities for us.

In October we made our first virtual quartet project of the song Moondance for a little Halloween fun.

In November 2021, just a month after forming, we travelled to Niagara Falls together to perform on Canada’s Got Talent with our chorus. This was a fabulous trip for us, bonding and sharing this incredible opportunity as proud members of Lions Gate Chorus.

During December we had many holiday performances at Burnaby Village, Simons Department Store, Lynn Valley Town Center and Baillie House Long Term Care.

January through March of 2022 we enjoyed coaching sessions with the fabulously talented Sandy Marron and Elaine Cotton from Lions Gate, and David Cotton too.

We also enjoyed getting feedback from our own “in house” coach, Sean Huston, who also happens to be Leila’s husband.

Then in April, we made our contest recording for the Region 26 Quartet Contest and waited patiently for May 5 to hear the results. We were beyond thrilled when it was announced that we had won the contest and would be heading to Phoenix in September!

In June we had the opportunity to sing in the Afterglow at the BHS Thunderbirds Chorus show.

We enjoyed more coaching sessions through the summer with Sandy Marron and Amy & Don Rose. They helped us improve our singing and performance skills. The level of support we received from Region 26 and Lions Gate Chorus was incredible and made us feel so blessed and special in a most unusual contest year. So many cards, gifts, and motivational wishes came our way and truly made the experience a memorable one. Our hotel room at International was adorned with an inspirational display to remind us of all the love and support we received from our friends in harmony.

Participating in the Region 26 Rah Rah and seeing our slides up on the jumbotron in Phoenix was absolutely thrilling for us. Thank you to Lions Gate Chorus, Region 26 and Westcoast Harmony Chorus for the slides!

A huge shoutout to Shannon Harris and Tim Marron, our on site coaches in Phoenix. They helped us keep our nerves under control so we could be our best on stage!

We loved the time we spent chatting with the Webcasters following our performance!

They wanted to make us the new Sweet Adelines spokespeople!

We are so incredibly proud to be the 2022 Regional quartet champions and so grateful for all our beautiful friends in Region 26. The icing on the cake was receiving these stunning trophies as keepsakes in recognition of our achievement. We want to thank Brava! Quartet for sponsoring the trophies and starting another wonderful tradition in our all Canadian region!
