Alberta Heartland Chorus
Alberta Heartland Chorus is having quite an exciting year. Like the rest of region 26, we
spent over two years ‘zooming.’ Thanks to our talented director and her team we
remained strong, but it just wasn’t the same. So when covid restrictions lifted, we
couldn’t wait to start ringing some chords.
We were a small group that came together, masked, in January. Our membership had
shrunk, but thanks to the amazing Lisa Hunszinger, we came back with new songs and
new resolve. In keeping with the whole renewal theme, We are also changing our name
to: ALBERTA NORTHERN LIGHTS CHORUS. Stay tuned to hear about our new logo,
website and focus on the future.
Speaking of the future we are also very excited about being invited to compete in the
Harmony Classic this fall. With only six months to prepare committees were quickly
formed. Fund raising, script writing, registrations, and of course, new music all had to be
prepared and ready to go. The call went out to past members and possible ‘dualies’ to
come and join us on our adventure. Coaches were contacted and our summer quickly
filled up.
Our chorus retreat faculty in April was the amazing Pat Fry. We barely had our music off
the paper, but Pat got us on the right track immediately. In June we will be hosting
Kathleen Hansen, and in July it will be Lindsay Charthier-Holdeman. These great coaches
will help us present the best package possible. A big thank you to Region 26 for
monetary support, which will help us with coaching expenses.
We are proud to be joining Gateway and West Coast Harmony choruses in Phoenix.
Three choruses from region 26, and two from the same city is quite a feat. We are being
joined by dual members from Chinook Winds Show Chorus, Rhythm of the Rockies and
Hearts of Harmony. We’re also proud to welcome one brand new member and five past
members to the risers. These dedicated ladies are wonderful additions to our chorus
family.
Alberta Northern Lights Chorus is on our way in 2022. We look forward to more
adventures and more fun coming up. We’ll see you in Phoenix.
