2023! It’s a new year and the roller coaster ride COVID created appears to be behind us. Yahoo! We feel galvanized with excitement about the future. The silver lining left by COVID is felt by everyone…we are more aware, rejuvenated and appreciative of each other and the freedom to sing once again for the public in person.

We’ve recently enjoyed an incredible Retreat featuring Coach Nikki Blackmer from Seattle. You’ll know her from her Quartet ‘Frenzy’ and/or her chorus ‘Accappella Joy’. Nikki was joyful, incredibly talented and loved sharing many gems in her toolbox with HoH who are eager to turn those gems into something magical in our performances!

Our chorus is now laser focused on upcoming Competition in April as well as our BIG SHOW in June (see Spoiler Alert below) and Nikki’s shared gems of wisdom are sure to prove very valuable when we perform on both of those large stages.

Backtracking just a little:

Hallelujah! We SANG IN PERSON leading up to Christmas 2022! What a treat! The long absence from performing live left us thrilled to sing at 7 locations within our city November through December. It was exciting and heart-warming to share our festive spirit with so many individuals who were craving live entertainment. We were rewarded with toe tapping, heads bobbing, some singing along and smiles. Especially the smiles! Our hearts were happy and our smiles were bigger, doing what we love to do.

In November we volunteered at a local Casino, raising funds for the chorus and future endeavours! Special thanks to all of our members who donated their time with this endeavour. Finding volunteers among us is never a problem! Loving hearts lend helping hands!

Jump forward to 2023:

We have been thrilled to welcome 11 new members into our chorus! Holy Moly!!! They are all working hard, along with the rest of us as we prepare for both Competition and our Big Show ‘Escape to the Sixties’ on June 17, 2023. The theme is sixties music and it’s shaping up to be so much fun! Keep an eye/ear out by following us on FaceBook where we are  maintaining a larger presence! Feel free to share our posts with everyone and stay tuned yourself for details about our June show! We would be honoured to have you in our audience bopping along with us, to music from the sixties.

(Spoiler Alert:  ‘Escape to the Sixties:  June 17/23 at 2:00 pm at the Gaetz United Church on Ross Street in Red Deer, AB. Tickets are $25.00 ages 13+ or $15.00 for ages 5 - 12 AND we will have a 50/50 Draw)

Baby, it’s cold out there! Hearts of Harmony performed live outside on our local Ross Street Patio here in Red Deer in the late afternoon on Valentine’s Day. The temperature was -5 and our audience was small, but we sang strong and our lovely audience hung in with us and were very enthusiastic and appreciative.

We’ve another performance in April at a local Retirement Villa that we are excited about!  Sadly we had to turn down another performance in April which is very disappointing, but their event is scheduled on the day we compete in Saskatoon. How unfortunate the timing is.

Hearts of Harmony is a chorus of incredible women. We are growing strong and are proud to be part of such an incredible and close-knit international organization. Hearts of Harmony wishes all choruses and quartets the best of luck in the upcoming April competition in Saskatoon where we look forward to meeting you!
