Pacific Edge Chorus

What a time!!

Imagination, Hope, and tenacity do make dreams come true. As we run down the list of events planned during the pandemic, and tick each item off, we believe our chorus is the epitome of that theory and we’re reminded that no matter what comes our way, if it were not for looking to tomorrow – we would not be ready when the sun finally shines.

In April our chorus competed in the first regional competition since 2019, and first virtual competition in our time – we won first place in our division, and through this, we earned the opportunity to compete in the 2023 Internationals in Louisville Kentucky - So now we’re on another mission.

In July, our Maritime tour came to fruition, where a ton of friends and memories gathered in our coffers to look back on with fondness. From Nova Scotia’s Halifax Citadel; Peggy’s Cove; the lush Annapolis Valley; to the Highlands of Cape Breton; then on to the sandy beaches of Prince Edward Island where the blowing sea strands whisp along its sandy shores contrasting with its red clay cliffs; the home of the mythical Anne of Green Gables and Cottage.

The tour arrived in PEI just in time to celebrate Canada Day with the Islanders. three days later, our chorus crossed the 12.9 km Confederation Bridge, largest curved bridge in the world over water then arrived on the shores of New Brunswick for an evening lobster dinner boat tour and more interesting history and sites of the East Coast of our Canada.

In September, the 74th Sweet Adelines International Convention claimed the spotlight. The competition was the very first since the pandemic shut us down in 2019, so to say it sparkled in its glory would be an understatement. A number of our chorus members attended in Phoenix, Arizona, while the rest of us joined virtually. None of us were not disappointed in the presentation and delivery of the performances. Things just seemed to fit into place for this long awaited ‘in person’ poignant International Event.

As mentioned in last MLX update, two of our members Julie Smith and Teresa White competed with West Coast Harmony and came home beaming with a sixth-place win in the Sweet Adelines world – we are so proud of them and our Region.

In October: We just finished our 4-week membership drive last Tuesday, Oct 11th. Our chair Suzanne Adams-Barrie closed this successful endeavour with an expression of gratitude for the help she received from her co-assistant Kathy Lockhart and Visitor Guide Lisa Morson. She also passed on feedback from our visitors to the rest of us of the warm welcoming attitude they received. Sue seems confident of at least two or three new members rising from this endeavor.

We would at this time like to introduce two members who joined us prior to our membership Drive – Welcome Nancy Townsend (returning member) and Helen Sharp, both leads. We are so lucky to have you both harmonizing with us.

And finally, on November 12th we will be hosting our ‘Some Knights Extravaganza Show and Dance’. This coming Tuesday Oct 18th we will have a costume dress rehearsal - can’t wait to see the display of our individual selections of medieval era costuming.

Also on October 18th – a new quartet within our chorus will be auditioning. The four-some revealed their presence and took their bows at a debut during the fun of our Contest Retreat this spring. Good Luck ‘Rumour Has It’

We are saddened to hear of the devastation and hardship created in the Maritime provinces of Canada and in the United States by both hurricanes Fiona and Ian. Our thoughts and prayers are constant as they heal and rebuild.
