Taxi! Quartet
At Contest 2024 in Calgary, four eager members of Peace Arch Chorus sang some group repertoire in the lobby as a quartet. Motivated by the enthusiasm of the chorus’s director, Elvera Collier, these women claimed the name Taxi! And stepped into the world of Sweet Adelines Quartets. Although Janine, our wonderful bass, has rocked the contest stage with multiple groups, Amy, Terri and Ursula are first-timers.
Making our performance debut at Harmony Hollow in Washington over labour day weekend, we won the award for Novice Quartet, singing “Better When I’m Dancin’”, arranged by Sofia de Rama of Lions Gate Chorus!
Over the Holiday Season, our quartet got to experience performing at the Surrey Tree Lighting festival and at Ladner United Church’s “Sunday at 3” show with Peace Arch Chorus. Both opportunities were great omens for the future of this newbie group!
Our big break came at Peace Arch Chorus’s annual Christmas Show. Taxi! sang multiple songs and had the support of a large, familiar crowd. What a success! It was an honour to sing alongside the chorus, and Wild Applause, and get in the holiday spirit. With this experience under our belt, we decided to register for Region 26’s Quartet Competition in May 2025!
While we’re writing this, the future is bright and sneaking up quick. We have coaching with Elvera Collier soon and more with Elaine Cotton at retreat in February. We have selected two wonderful contest pieces and the harmonies are coming together strongly! Taxi! is so excited to kickstart our journey in Sweet Adelines as a quartet, a group of women who love to sing, and as a family (no, literally. Two members are mother-daughter. It really makes the travel easy!)
