Westcoast Harmony Sing - Fall 2019

Westcoast Harmony Chorus had a blast in October with two performances of our new show Sing! at the Bell Centre in Surrey. The theme was the joy of singing, and did we ever bring that joy to our audiences! The full chorus sang both new and well-known repertoire, and individual members gave hilarious performances acting out memes, playing the audience, and demonstrating in the most entertaining way just how much music is based on a simple four-chord progression. The popular Newfangled Four from Southern California, one of the top barbershop quartets in the world, joined us, along with our very own VITA Quartet, 2019 Region 26 third-place medallists.

Also featured were Young Singers in Harmony. You can read all about them in Patti Thorpe’s article. This was a workshop held in conjunction with the show, open to young women and, for the first time ever, young men. A chorus of 49 young women and another chorus of 16 young men rehearsed two songs each on Friday evening and all day Saturday and performed on our evening stage. Patti brought in guest directors, WHC section leaders and a choreo coach, and the Newfangled Four gave the young singers some big laughs. A small but mighty team of volunteers made sure the workshop ran smoothly. Westcoast is thrilled to have such wonderful people in our midst!
